NPR's Day to Day Joins the KUAC FM Morning Line Up
On June 23rd, an additional hour of live news coverage debuted on KUAC's radio morning news line-up with Day to Day airing from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Over the past year, it has been noted that increased occurrences of dated news air in the final hour of Morning Edition (airing 8-9 a.m.) as this is a repeat of the live news KUAC that originally airing from 6-7 a.m. Some recent examples include coverage of the Minnesota bridge collapse, the resignation of Attorney General, Alberto Gonzalez, and the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto. These were stories that were first announced during the live hour of Morning Edition, but continued beyond the end of the program with new details coming out each hour.
This sort of time-warp happens any time disaster news breaks and there are regular updates on injuries and casualties, only to have the KUAC 8 a.m. hour of Morning Edition roll back the clock two hours on the details. This occurs because the last hour of live news coverage that Morning Edition produces is aired between 7-8 a.m.
KUAC is committed to providing timely news coverage for our listeners. NPR and PRI provide a schedule of programs between Morning Edition and All Things Considered, some that KUAC already airs like Talk of the Nation, BBC News, and Fresh Air to provide extended coverage of breaking news while maintaining continuity and the same journalistic standards as the two major news magazines. Another program that has proven to maintain the same high standards is Day to Day, a mid-morning "bridge program."
Day to Day provides continuing coverage of any breaking news along with more extended features produced specifically for the program. As we approach what's being described as the biggest election in U.S. history, KUAC, along with guidance from the KUAC/AlaskaOne Community Advisory Council has committed the addition of Day to Day to our morning line up to replace the repeated hour of Morning Edition.
Day to Day has become the fastest-growing daily show in public radio. It was the first NPR news and information program to originate on the west coast and features ongoing segments on health, finance, the law and politics.
We're committed to providing our listeners with programming that is thought provoking, trustworthy and even life-changing. The addition of Day to Day maintains our commitment to our listeners while maintaining our core values. As always, we invite your comments, feedback and concerns.
