Emily SchwingIn Alaska since 2006, Emily Schwing is KUAC’s adventuring reporter for the Yukon Quest! She hits the trail this year to tell the tales of the challenging 1,000-mile race. Raised between Denver, CO and Salt Lake City, UT, Emily has lived in Homer, Sitka and Petersburg but now calls Fairbanks home. She earned her BA in Geology and Environmental Studies from Carleton College in Minnesota, and is completing her MS in Natural Resources Management from UAF.

As a journalist, she has filed stories about a super-pod of killer whales in Kachemak Bay in 2008, she was a Reporting Fellow for Deutsche Welle Radio’s English Service in Bonn, Germany, in 2009, and just returned to Fairbanks after a year as the Morning Edition host and Reporter at Boise State Public Radio in Boise, Idaho.

EMILY is excited to be heading to Whitehorse, and says:

"After the challenges of last year’s race – frozen fingers, injured dogs, and a few close calls for a handful of mushers – it’s hard to imagine the Quest getting any more exciting for me. This year’s field looks promising, challenging and ready for competition. Who knows what will happen?

Besides, it’s the candied bacon that keeps me going.
"

Travel along with me as the race unfolds down the unpredictable, dramatic 1,000-mile YUKON QUEST TRAIL, whether you join in for updates as part of KUAC FM’s broadcast audience or online streaming listeners, are a Facebook fan or website visitor.
