Defending champion Lance Mackey, three-time winner Hans Gatt, and long time race veteran William Kleedehn are likely well into the last one hundred miles of the race, but there's been no new information from the trail since they disappeared into the hills after leaving the race's last official checkpoint at Stewart River/Scroggie Creek. Lance Mackey has the lead back, after losing it last night to Hans Gatt. Mackey was the first musher out of the race’s last trail checkpoint, at Stewart River/Scroggie Creek, at 2:45 Yukon time this morning. Hans Gatt didn’t follow until 6 am, giving up a lead he’d taken last night. Gatt beat Mackey into the last checkpoint, but this morning stayed 4 hours longer than the mandatory 8-hour layover.
