
Hans Gatt’s team arrives at the race’s halfway point, Dawson City. Gatt had the lead out of Eagle, but says he lost it when his team rested for 9 hours on the Fortymile River, and Lance Mackey and William Kleedehn passed him by.

The confluence of the Yukon and Fortymile Rivers, where mushers traditionally stop at the Fortymile Cabin. However, frontrunners Lance Mackey, William Kleedehn, and Hans Gatt all blew through past the cabin, arriving in Dawson far faster than race watchers predicted.

Lance Mackey ran a blistering pace over the trail between the Eagle and Dawson City checkpoints. On the way, the defending champion passed three-time Quest winner Hans Gatt, who had a two hour lead out of Eagle on Wednesday. Click here to Listen to the report.

Hall’s dogs rest in Eagle. They’re bigger than some of the other Quest dogs, with thicker fur and broader foot pads, making them ideal for cold weather runs.
